Last week I finished up Tracy Anderson Mat Workout for Beginners Mat 2: Chair Sequence so this week I moved on the Mat 3: Total Body Intermediate. I was sad to see the chair go, but was excited to see what Tracy had in store for me. Turns out it is a lot of arms and hips/bum …. oh how they burn… especially those last weighted butterflys. She normally does 8 counts for arms. Well, let me tell you, she just keeps going and going and then she does more to the back and then another round of pulse both then right then pulse both then left to the back, OMG! I thought I was going to die!!! I have yet to make it through 100% of the arm reps but I am hopeful that I will continue to get stronger through the week.

And speaking of challenges, there is a move in the legs section that is so freaking tough. You sit up with one leg bent and held up in front of you. You then swing that leg around back while lying forward, then sit up and swing it back to the starting position AND you are supposed to do this with 1.5 lb ankle weights on (what?!?!?). Let’s be honest here, there is just no exercise comparison that would make a burning fire in your hip muscles like the burning fire Tracy makes. She is a master at this. I went ahead and ordered the 1.5 lb ankle weights from her website (yes, I wanted the ones with the cute little branded “TA” on them, I admit it) at the beginning of the week but I just got the shipment notification today, so, it looks like I am going to have a few more sessions to try and nail all of the reps unweighted, which is good because I clearly need more time.
If you follow me on Instagram, you may have noticed that I started wearing shoes for DC this week. I did this after reading the following in the TAM Metamorphosis Get Started FAQs:
Q: I do the workout on carpeting. Is it okay to do it barefoot?
A: No! You need support, stability and cushioning of a good pair of athletic shoes. You’re going to be doing a lot of jumping and going barefoot could result in injury.
Oops! We don’t wear shoes inside our house so I never even considered that I actually needed to wear them for these workouts, even though it seems pretty obvious now. Luckily I already had a pair of Nike’s that I got back when I was doing T25 that are “inside only” shoes so I could start wearing those right away. And not a moment too soon, because I also started to have some pain in my knees this week. I am not sure if it is a cumulative effect of all the DC or if the Cardio Dance for Beginners is more high impact. I think I am going to stick with just TAVA for DC this week to see if that helps with the knee pain since Tracy specifically created it to be low impact. Oh that reminds me, I finally found out what TAVA means in the behind the scenes making of the video …. TA is obviously Tracy Anderson but “va” means “go” in Spanish so TAva means “Tracy Anderson go.” Mystery solved 🙂
This Week’s Schedule:
Total Dance Cardio 2.5 hours Total Muscular Structure 2.1 hours Grand Total 4 hours 35 minutes
WOW, I am super excited! I am down another pound in the past week and over 7 pounds since I started 5 weeks ago. I think that moving over to focus on the TAM workouts in week 4 was the right decision for me and is why I I am getting results week after week. I feel like you can really see the overall slimming in this week’s photos. Especially around the midsection. At the beginning, my shirt was pretty tight and now it is almost a little loose. Also, this might just be wishful thinking, but I swear my bum looks like it is more lifted (no doubt thanks to those 5 million leg lifts Tracy makes us do. I will never complain about them again!) And yes, those are new leggings! I found them at Target for $12 on the sale rack 🙂
